Sophia top – nursing option.
When I released the Sophia top pattern, I had several customers ask if it was a nursing friendly garment. As the neckline on the cami sits quite high, I knew a pattern hack was in my future!
When I was nursing my baby girls many moons ago, I struggled to find nice garments that were fashionable, and also did the job of providing easy access while not showing off too much. My girls were not easy feeders, I remember lots of tears all round! I stayed close to home because the last thing I wanted was to be struggling with my clothing while they were wailing at me!
The nursing Sophia top solves this problem – a fashionable top with a draped front cowl that allows easy access to the attached camisole underneath. The Sophia is also ideal for a post baby tummy, as the soft drapes across the front cover up a lot!
The pattern hack is to the cami layer underneath, and there are 2 options.
The vertical nursing option has an upper and lower cami section. The upper cami is in 3 parts and has seams going up into the shoulder. The seam is sewn down to the neckline, as this holds the neckline sitting flat across the chest. The opening is overlapped at the under bust. I’ve recommended this version for smaller cup sizes, but you can play with the opening a little to make it a little larger.
The horizontal nursing option also has an upper and lower cami section. The upper cami is in one part and simply overlaps the lower cami. The lower cami has wider elastic to help it stay in place under the bust.
This is a free add on to the Sophia pattern. You will need to purchase the Sophia top pattern first, and then download the nursing add on separately.
Happy nursing mamas!
