Return to Oz
The last month has been a very busy one for my family and I. After nearly 6 years of living in Hong Kong we’ve moved back to Australia, to a beautiful beachside location in Adelaide. As much as we enjoyed the adventure of living an expat life and all the travel and cultural experiences it offered, it is so nice to be back amongst family and a relaxed Aussie life. Deep blue skies, fresh air, birdsong and barbeques… it’s the simple things I’ve missed the most! This is the lovely view at the end of my street.
Packing up my sewing studio in Hong Kong was not fun, and unpacking will be worse! As I was busy decluttering before we left, I was still madly buying fabrics and laces up until the end. All our bags were overflowing with the laces and elastics purchased on my last shopping trip in Sham Shui Po! The textile district in HK is one place I will truly miss, but I do intend to visit when I can.
When we moved to Hong Kong I left behind a lovely big studio that we had especially built for my business. I mourned for it, and was not happy until I had created a new space in the new house. Over the years I slowly took over my daughter’s playroom, so I enjoyed an amazing space on the 1st floor with spectacular views over the ocean. Now I will miss that space…
My new studio will be located in a bedroom that has great light, but no view. I’ve ordered a blind and installed some lace curtains so far. It’s a bit of a white minimalist look at the moment, complete with a blank canvas on the wall. Like me, it’s waiting for a new life to unfold! My main concern is storage as I wait for our shipping container to arrive. I found these great little storage baskets at IKEA that fit into the built in wardrobe. I’ve bought 2 of these, but they are nearly full already!
The look I’m going for is fresh, modern and uncluttered! I’ve been collecting pins on Pinterest for sewing studio ideas. I will keep you updated as I settle in and give this space a makeover.
One of my resolutions this year is to use up my fabric stash. I’m going to sew like crazy! It’s been nice having a break, but I’m itching to get back to it. The next pattern I am planning is a lace knicker pattern to go with the Bella Bralette. So if you have left over lace, keep it stashed! I can’t wait to have matching sets!
Happy new year sewing friends. XOX
