Daydream Lace
I have always had a special thing for lace. I designed a small lingerie collection in fashion college, started my first lingerie label when I was 21, and at 27 found myself working as a designer for Triumph International, one of the world’s largest intimate apparel companies.
One of the best things about that job was choosing the laces. Every season we had to sift through the latest samples from around the world, and select the laces we thought we might be able to use and transform into gorgeous lingerie. My idea of heaven.
Lace is not only reserved for lingerie, but for outerwear as well. There is nothing more feminine that a lace dress or skirt. Lace is cool and classic, and never really goes out of style.
My friend Sally, who is currently head designer at Triumph International in Australia made this cool story board to show that lace is not only for lingerie, but is a modern and contemporary addition to any girls wardrobe.
She had this to say about lace this season –
“Lace is front and centre again in fashion land. Delicate laces through to heavy opulent guipures are seen not just in intimate apparel, but also on the runway and at many of the fashion awards this season.
Lace is no longer reserved for high fashion or bridal, it can be seen in a multitude of styles from shorts to beautiful midi length skirts and timeless shell tops.
Styled back with something simple like a plain knit and statement jewellery, and you have a fabulous outfit that can take you from day to night. Enjoy wearing lace everyday and bringing a little luxury back into your life.” Sally E
Lace is such a beautiful fabric to work with, and can be incorporated into so many different designs. My growing board on Pinterest is overflowing with ideas that I want to try.
In my travels around the textile district here in Hong Kong, I have discovered many beautiful, high quality laces. I have a growing stash for my pattern designs, and now I’ve decided to share some of them with you!
I know how hard it is to find really nice lace in beautiful colours, so I am now selling a small collection of stretch galloon lace through my Etsy store. I will keep the selection small and only add the best quality laces in the most stunning colours that I can find.
All the laces that I will stock will complement my sewing patterns. Visit my Daydream Patterns Etsy store. Enjoy!
