Darcy dress pattern
So excited to release the Darcy dress pattern in girls sizes 4 – 14 today!
This dress is such a gorgeous design made with stretch fabric that my girls and all my testers have loved. Originally the dress was in my Daydream Girl range, so I actually made this pattern ages ago. When I decided to release it as a pattern I completely reworked it, and I have added the smaller sizes. As well as the singlet/ action back version, I added a couple of extra sleeve options – a raglan short sleeve and a 3/4 length raglan making this dress a very trans seasonal style.
The bodice has an optional lace overlay front and back. I adore lace, I often dream about it (not really) but I do have a strange obsession with it. My years working in lingerie and bridal have reinforced this fixation, and I have many drawers full of the lovely stuff. So I will always try to add it into a design somehow, I cannot help myself. The beauty of the Darcy dress lace overlay is that you can make it a contrast colour, and with the material visible underneath. Mmmm…see… very pretty.
Some of my testers decided that they were not lace people (and that is fine, really) and they used 2 different prints in the dress. So it is a great design for mixing up prints as well.
The skirt is what makes this dress so special. It features an unusual silhouette with pleats across the front and the back. The skirt has no side seams, but is cut on the fold. The sides drape into lovely soft folds of fabric. The draped sides also hide surprise pockets for hands and little treasures. The skirt shape makes a very comfortable, but elegant design.
The Darcy dress pattern is an intermediate sewing pattern. The instructions have full illustrations to help you with every step. There are also links to tutorials on the website to help to you further. All of my testers thought the sew was an easy one. The pattern is available as an instant download PDF pattern to be printed at home on A4 or letter paper.
