Bella Bralette and Cami
It’s finally here, the answer to your all your secret lingerie sewing dreams – the Bella Bralette and cami pattern!
I am most proud of this pattern, and have really enjoyed getting back to designing lingerie again. It’s most definitely my thing, and slightly addictive if you haven’t tried it before! I designed the Bella bralette as I was starting to feel uncomfortable in the underwires I was wearing. I wanted a soft cup bra that offered support, but was also pretty and feminine.
This slip on soft cup bralette features fully lined cups that are set into a lace underbust. The design has wide sides and a full lace back. This offers more support and makes it extremely comfortable to wear! There are 2 options – a V neckline that sits slightly higher and provides more support and coverage, and a plunge neckline that is a little sexier and more revealing. There is also an option to add a cami, making this a very versatile pattern.
I have labelled the pattern as advanced beginner / intermediate. It would be useful if you were comfortable sewing stretch materials and using elastics, but there is enough instruction for a beginner in the tutorial. The construction of the bralette features encased bust seams, side seams and an underbust seam cover so it is truly a soft bra to wear. These small touches also make the bra beautiful both inside and out.
The bralette is made with narrow stretch galloon lace. The design makes the most of the pretty scalloped lace edges which are featured on the cups and around the underbust edge. I have made a list of online lingerie suppliers to help you with finding supplies, some of these companies have great bra kits which makes it really easy as everything comes in matching colours. The tutorial offers a complete list of suggested laces, fabrics, elastics and straps.
The sizes offered in the pattern are Australian sizes 8 – 20 and in cup sizes A – D. The sizing chart included will show you how to measure and determine your size and cup size. Both imperial and metric measurements are used throughout the pattern.
The 35 page tutorial includes detailed instructions with colour illustrations. If you haven’t made a bra before, the instructions will walk you through each and every step. Also featured in the tutorial is an explanation of lace patterns and how to place your patterns on scallop lace. I have also added a tutorial on making adjustable straps as an option.
In the 48 page pattern file the cups sizes are grouped together, so you only need to print out your cup size for the bralette – 6 pages for the A cups and 10 pages for the other cups. This is another thing I love about lingerie patterns, they are small and easy to handle! The patterns are colour coded by size and feature a layers function, so you only need print out your size.
