Be my Valentine!
When my youngest daughter was in kindy she painted a little wooden heart, threaded beads onto the hanging ribbon, and gave it to me for Valentines Day. I still have that heart hanging in my kitchen, it makes me smile whenever I see it. Little treasures are the best ones and I have one for you this Valentines Day.
If you’re in a loving mood this year, then making a present for someone you love is a special way to say it! My girls think Valentines Day is ‘cheesy’ and I agree, but any excuse for a handmade present I say!
I’ve made these cute felt love hearts with my students this year just for fun. They are easy and quick, even though I’ve included some hand sewing in there – just for practice, but you can easily make these on the machine in under an hour.
You’ll need to cut 2 hearts from felt. Grab the love heart shaped template in the Daydream Patterns Facebook group. You’ll also need some matching ribbon cut at 30cm.
This red heart has lace sewn onto the front which acts as a little pocket for secret chocolates or love notes. Pin the lace to the front of one of the hearts, and also position and pin the ribbon at the back.
Turn the heart over and baste in a straight stitch around the edge of the lace. Sewing it upside down will prevent the lace from stretching. Also baste the ribbon ends.
Now pin the other felt heart to the back and pin together. Using a wide zig zag stitch sew around the edge of the heart.
On this one I’ve sewn several narrow stretch laces diagonally across, and added some cute bows. Sew the laces on with a zig zag stitch first.
Have fun with colours and make yours pretty and soft or loud and colourful!
This one has a pop of purple with a stretch lace pocket and a hand sewn flower. Baste the lace in place and hand sew the flower.
Make one for yourself or help your kiddos to make them for their grandma or teacher.
Happy Valentines Day! I hope yours is sewn with love!
